This week we will hit a milestone as we celebrate the 100th day of school. We will recognize the day on Wednesday, January 28th. This school year is flying by! (:
We will begin practicing the long awaited multiplication facts this week. My plan is to practice 10 minutes at school and have the students practice 10 minutes at home. Our next Math unit will be over multiplication, introducing the fact that it is repeated addition and showing the visual aspect of multiplication! We can't wait to get started!
We will finish up our study of the Northwest coast Kwakiutl Indians this week with a test on Friday in Social Studies. We began our study of the food chain in Science. There is a fun game on my educational links page to help the children learn and study about the food chain.
Reading this week will broaden our horizons as we will be reading a story written in English and Spanish. Even though I do not expect the children to read the words in Spanish, we will listen to a reading of it just to hear what it sounds like. We will also be studying figurative language, one of my favorite concepts to teach!
This week will also bring the study of adverbs in Language. The students are really getting good at identifying the parts of speech in a sentence!
In Tiger Time, we will begin our preparations for the PARCC test, which will take place in March. We will be taking this test on the computer, so we will begin to show the children what the test will involve as well as taking a practice test for the students to become familiar with the tool bar, the click and drag aspect of the test, the highlighting tool and the general feel of taking a test on the computer. We will also practice typing answers to questions in the computer lab this week.
Have a great week!
