Congratulations to Natalie for being our orange card winner of the week! Also, congratulations to Braidy for receiving a "Good News Call" this quarter. I am so proud of all the students for making great choices!
I have noticed that the homework page on our website has had trouble updating. I do post updates on homework everyday, but for some reason the website does not always get them posted. I am sorry for any problems that may arise. You are always welcome to email, text or call me if you have any questions about the homework. (:
This week we will be finishing Chapter 2 in Science. We will begin Chapter 3 in Social Studies. Since we did not have a test over Chapter 2, I will be combining Chapter 2 and 3 together for the test. This will probably take place the week we return from Christmas vacation.
In Math, we are working on estimating and rounding when subtracting. We are also working on four step problem solving, writing each step of our problem, showing our work and checking our work to make sure we are on the right track. Even though these problems require a lot of steps and a lot of thinking, the children are getting very good at these problems! One area that we need to continue practicing is in the area of basic subtraction facts. Please make sure your child is reviewing their subtraction facts as we continue to build on these daily.
This week in Reading we will be reading a fun play about Pecos Bill. This story is always a favorite of the children. We will also be discussing multiple meanings, story elements and context clues.
In Language, we are concentrating on verbs. We have discussed action verbs and helping verbs and we will add in linking verbs this week. We are preparing to write Christmas poems at the end of this week and next week. We hope to share them with you before Christmas!
The children are getting so excited for Christmas! We can't wait for that jolly 'ol man to pay us a visit soon! Have a great week!
