On Wednesday, May 28, we will be traveling to the high school to participate in the inaugural Tiger Classic. This is a mock track meet with the students participating in running and field events. This year our team is the red team. If at all possible, please have your child dressed in a red shirt on Wednesday to match our team. We are so excited to be a part of this new adventure!
Thank you Lyondell for the wonderful donation of the Buddy Bench and for sprucing up our playground! It looks awesome!! We were so excited to hear that our dream of having our very own Buddy Bench had come true! After reading an article in our Scholastic News this winter, we wrote a persusive paper giving Mrs. Torbit several reasons why our school should have a Buddy Bench of our own. Thanks to Lyondell and Mrs. Torbit, that request became a reality!
Here is the article that started the wheels turning... We really enjoyed our trip to the high school to participate in the barnyard activities last Friday. One of our favorite activities was the pedal tractor races! Some of us found that long legs make it a little more difficult to race the tractor, but what a blast! Thank you to the Tuscola HS FFA for providing such a fun field trip!
Wow! I can't believe we are almost done! It doesn't seem possible. I am sure going to miss these kids. They are a wonderful class to work with and I am blessed to know them. (:
This week we will be wrapping up many of our chapters and saying goodbye to homework for the summer! We will be testing over our weather chapter in Science on Wednesday, finishing up our chapter on American Government in Social Studies on Monday, and completing our How to Eat Fried Worms book by the end of the week. We took our last Spelling test last Friday, so we will be using that time to work on some end-of-the-year writing assignments. In Math, we will be doing a review over the concepts we have studied this year and also continuing to practice our multiplication facts. The final week of school is going to be a busy one! Here is our schedule for the final week: Monday, May 26: No School/Memorial Day Tuesday, May 27: Full Day of School: Movie in the morning and writing activities and inflatables in the afternoon Wednesday, May 28: PE Field Day at the High School in the morning Clean desks and room in the afternoon (Please bring a grocery or extra bag to take all of your belongings home) Thursday: May 29: Last Day of School Please bring a sack lunch and two drinks We will be at the park from 8:45 - 2:30. Have a great summer!! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day filled with family and friends. We love our moms in 3rd grade!
Thank you all for the beautiful flowers for Teacher Appreciation Week! We had a fun filled week and I can't say enough how blessed I am to work with all of your children. Congratulations to Kaci for being our orange card winner of the week! Great job on making good choices! This week we will begin our second novel "How to Eat Fried Worms". The kids really enjoyed "Chocolate Fever" and we had some great class discussions over the book. I hope that they are learning how much one can learn and enjoy reading novels! In Social Studies, we will continue our study of the state and federal governments, Science brings the study of the water cycle and weather and in Language we are putting together a very special ABC slide show discussing the ABC's of 3rd grade. In Math, we are hitting multiplication and division really hard these last few weeks. Please continue to encourage your child to study their multiplication facts ten minutes a night. It is very important the children know their facts before entering fourth grade. This week will be our last Spelling test for the year. I can't believe we are getting this close to the end of the year! On Friday, we will be traveling to the high school to tour the Barn Yard exhibit sponsored by the FFA. We are super excited to go on our mini field trip! Friday will also be Mrs. Simpson's (our student teacher) last day. She has been a great addition to our classroom and we have learned a lot from her. We will be very sad to see her go, but we wish her the best of luck with her teaching career! Next week I will include a schedule for the last week of school. We will be going on our class picnic May 29th, so the children will need a sack lunch to bring to the park that day. This is also our last day of school. I will be sending home more information soon! Have a great week! Congratulations to Reggan, our orange card winner of the week. Great job on making good choices!
We are down to 18 student attendance days! Wow! I can't believe time has flown by! Congratulations to Ella and Mason on their biography presentations to the school board last Monday night. They did a beautiful job, even dealing with a tornado warning during the middle of the presentations! I was so proud of all the students who presented that evening! (Thank you to Amy Boyer for the picture!) Thank you to all of the parents that helped the students with their biography projects. They all did a wonderful job and I was very proud of all of them! If you have asked me for a copy of the video, I ran into a little glich and I am still working on it. I will get them to you as soon as I can! Sorry for the delay. This next week, we will be finishing up our book, Chocolate Fever. The students have throughly enjoyed this book. We have had great small group discussions as they are learning how to ask good questions and how to answer those questions with details and explanations. We will begin the study of weather in Science, in Math we will learn to multiply two digit by one digit numbers, Social Studies will bring the study of local, state and federal governments and Language we are going to begin a special project to culimate what we think third grade is all about to share with next year's class. It should prove to be a fun project, and I can't wait to see the finished results! Please remind your child to practice their multiplication facts every night for at least 10 minutes. They can practice on the computer, flash cards, regular playing cards, wipe off boards...any way to learn those facts! It is essential that they know these facts before moving on to 4th grade!
