We just started rocketship math multiplication. We are doing morning math division, multiplication, fractions, and bar graphs. We practiced music with the 4th graders. It went very well! We are reading Judy Blume "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.". We are on Chapter 3. It is really good! We are doing a Christmas project for the soldiers. We are also doing a reading project. Congratulations to Zachary on being our orange card winner of the week! Great job on making good choices!
We are finishing up our Web Quest on Thanksgiving. Even though we knew the basic story, we have learned a lot about the details and new things we did not know about traveling on the Mayflower and the winters leading up to the First Thanksgiving. We have also learned so much about the food, clothing, chores and general daily life of the pilgrims and the Wampanoag. We have begun our journey to learn multiplication! The students are doing very well learning the 0s, 1s and 2s. We are also learning a little division along the way and are so amazed to find that division is just multiplication backwards! In Science, we are discussing animals' habitats and what they need from their habitat to survive. We completed our unit on pronouns in Language and we will begin learning how to write a 5 paragraph essay in the next few weeks. Since this is a short week, we will not start a new Reading unit or Spelling unit. We will be working on small projects for the two days we are in attendance this week. I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving! On Friday, we had a visitor in the afternoon. Mrs. Jaime Simpson will be joining our classroom in January to do her student teaching with us. She is from Atwood and we are very excited to have her with us! (:
Wow! I just can't believe how fast time is going! Thanksgiving is going to be here soon and then Christmas. Where does the time go?
We have one more video to shoot for our insect reports and then I will post them on our website. The boys and girls did a fantastic job and learned a lot! We are finishing up our Math unit on time and will begin learning our multiplication facts starting this week. Your child will need a set of multiplication flashcards to use for practice in class and at home. It is very important for the students to learn their facts as they will use them the rest of their life! Social Studies has been a great hit this week as we are studying the travel of the Pilgrims and the hardships they faced when they arrived at Plymouth Rock. We are traveling through a Thanksgiving Web Quest that shows us videos, maps and pictures and gives us a great idea of what it was like to be a pilgrim and a Wampanoag in the 1600s. Science will begin a new chapter of studying animal habitats. We will also be discussing the food chain and why it is so important to our existence. We will be finishing our study of pronouns in Language Arts and begin our poetry unit after Thanksgiving. We will be discussing the use of adjectives in making our writing much "richer"! Congratulations to Dannie and Makenzie for being our Tiger Card winners last Friday! Great job on making good choices! We are proud of you!
Today we spent time talking about Veteran's Day and what it actually means to be a veteran. We would like to send a special thank you to all veterans for their service. You are our true heroes! Happy November! While we were busy doing our everyday things, the calendar turned on us! I can't believe we are already into the month of November! Wow, time sure flies when you are having fun!
Congratulations to our Tiger Card winners this week, Ella, Mia and Kaci! Way to make good choices, girls! We are planning on finishing our insect reports this week. I hope to have all videos done by Friday. We can't wait to share the information we have researched with you! Next week is going to be full of tests. We seemed to have reached the end of the chapters all at once. Hold on to your hats, it will be a busy one! All Veteran's Day information is due by Friday, November 8. If you would like to include a picture with the information, you are welcome to do so. We will be hanging the information up in our "Hall of Honor" to celebrate, honor, and thank all those in the military that have served our country. In music, the children are very busy practicing for the Christmas concert to be held on Thursday, December 5th. If your child has a speaking part, please make sure they practice and memorize their part. The Christmas program promises to be a fun and exciting production this year. Nothing is better than hearing the children singing their hearts out and truly having fun with music! |
