Congratulations to Ty, our orange card winner of the week!
I can't believe that mid-term is at the end of this week! Time is moving quickly!
We will be wrapping up our Keeping our Bodies Healthy Unit in Science and our Continents and Ocean Unit in Social Studies this week. In Math, we are working on ordering numbers and we will have a mid-chapter assessment towards the middle of the week. In Reading, we are discussing story elements, prefixes, making predictions, compound words, table of contents and using the index. We are studying subject and predicate and when to use capital letters in Language Arts.
We began our Daily 5 groups in Reading this past week. The Daily 5 is a process where the students get to choose from 5 choices each day to practice different areas of reading. They get into groups no larger than four in a group to work at these centers. Their choices range from read to self, read with a partner, listening to a book on the iPad, practicing spelling words or vocabulary words and writing in their journal or a class journal. Each day they choose a different spot than they chose the day before. They love the fact that they get to choose what they want to participate in each day! It has worked very well!
Thank you to all who have notified me when your child has an appointment and needs to leave early or will be gone for the day. It makes for an easy transition to prepare them to leave. The students and I really appreciate it!
