Here we are in the middle of the first quarter already! Time flies when you are having fun! If you have not checked your child's grades, please take a minute to do so. Keeping tabs on your child's progress is the best way to see how they are handling the 3rd grade material. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me!
Congratulations to Jackson on being our orange card winner of the week! Great work!
Tiger Time will begin next week. The third grade teachers will be meeting this week to put together the groups so that we will be ready to begin on September 23.
This week we will begin new units in Social Studies and Science. We will begin studying the United States and learning the abbreviations for the states in this next unit for Social Studies. In Science, we will begin the study of plants and how they grow.
We are reading the last story in our Reading unit this week, so next week we will be taking the Unit Reading test for Unit I. All the skill work will be review this week. This week's story is about a Little League team from New Jersey that won the Little League World Series back in 1998.
In Language, we are discussing the different reasons to use a capital letter and will begin learning and identifying nouns in a sentence. Math is all about rounding this week...rounding to the nearest tens and hundreds.
During our computer lab time this year, the students are working on a typing website to learn the correct way to type. With our state assessment test being administered digitally beginning this year or next, it is necessary that the students learn correct typing skills to be able to maneuver and answer the test questions in an efficient manner. The students love the practice and I have seen much improvement already.! It is so fun to see how excited they get when they see their percentage improve or their words per minute increase! We practice for 10 minutes two days per week during our computer lab sessions. I have also put a link on our class website if the students would like to practice at home. Go to the Education Links page and click the "practice typing" link.
Enjoy the cooler weather this week. It seems like fall is here!
