This week during Reading, we will be reading about "Christmas Around the World" and using close reading activities to "dig a little deeper" into non-fiction pieces. In Language, we are going to begin our poetry unit, learning how to write a Haiku. We will be focusing on adjectives to enhance and add interest to our writing!
We will not be covering a spelling unit this week, but we will be working on spelling words correctly in our sentence writing in other subjects. Starting after Christmas, I will be choosing to grade the spelling of one assignment per week. We have been discussing the importance of spelling correctly in all assignments, not just spelling!
This week we will be covering a double edition of Scholastic News during Social Studies and Science. There are many non-fiction selections in this edition covering both subjects. We will also being using our close reading strategy on the main story about eagles.
In Math, this week will be all about subtraction review. Basic facts, double, triple and quadruple subtraction with regrouping. Please make sure your child reviews their subtraction facts as we are using them daily at this point.
