Congratulations to Mason on being our orange card winner of the week! Good choices are being made all the time!
This week found several of us with that dreaded winter enemy, the common cold. (including myself). As we fight our way to a healthy winter, we have yet to have perfect attendance since we returned from Christmas break. I sure hope this week we will break our record!
Friday was a day full of projects and experiments. We started our day making, drinking and writing about homemade hot chocolate. The students all agreed that it was one of the most chocolatey hot chocolate they have ever had! I hope to post our writings soon!
The day ended with the making of our own vent volcanos...the kind that do not explode but slowly ooze out. (Even though a few did become explosive!)
This week we will begin Book II of our reading series. If you haven't noticed, we have stepped up our writing. We are continuing to work on writing complete sentences, answering questions with complete sentences and writing to express our thoughts and feelings. We will wrap up our subtraction chapter in Math and will begin multiplication next week. Please make sure to have those flashcards by Friday, January 23!!
We will also wrap up our study of adjectives in Language and continue to study different types of poems.
We began our study of Native Americans in Social Studies last week starting with the Kwakiutl. The students knew quite a bit about this group of Native Americans as they are also studying them and working on a project in Art! In Science we are studying food chains, adaptations and populations. We are learning a ton every day!
We will begin Tiger Time again next week. This session, we will begin preparing for the PARCC test, which will be taken in March. This test will be administered on the computer and will replace the ISAT test. More information will follow about this at a later date.
Have a great week!
